In-Office Whitening

How it works
- First the dental assistant will place a retractor, cotton, and gauze to block off the lips and cheek from the teeth
- Next, we will apply a gum barrier to prevent the whitening solution from touching the gums and causing irritation
- The whitening gel will be applied and the LED mouth tray will be inserted
- After 15 minutes, we’ll remove the whitening gel from your teeth and the mouthpiece. Then, we’ll check-in with you to assess your comfort level and whether you are experiencing any sensitivity
- We’ll apply fresh whitening gel and conduct two additional sessions of 15 minutes each, pausing after each one to assess your comfort
- While sensitivity is uncommon with Essential Whitening, if you do experience any, it may be appropriate to shorten your whitening session
Post-op whitening instructions
After whitening, we recommend avoiding foods or drinks that can cause staining to teeth for 24 hours. This can include wine, coffee, soda, tobacco, colored foods, etc.
After the in-office whitening session, we will send you home with a personal LED mouthpiece, additional whitening, and a desensitizing pen for any sensitivity. This desensitizing pen dispenses gel that can be applied for 5 minutes if you are experience any discomfort after your whitening treatment. After the 5 minutes, the gel can be rinsed with water.
Starting one week after the in-office treatment, you may use the 35% syringe for touch-ups and maintenance. It is recommended that patients do 1-2 treatments per week or until the syringe is used up. Essential Whitening suggests that the patient take a break and come back 4 months later for a refill kit to resume their maintenance work. They should use the entire box within a three-month span, which should be about 1-2 treatments per week. Then take another 4-6 months before doing more maintenance work.
